IFSCC CONGRESS AWARDS

The IFSCC Award is designed to encourage and recognise outstanding research studies in Cosmetic Science and its related technology. The Award consists of 7500 Swiss Francs and is granted to the author or authors of the most noteworthy paper presented at each Congress of the IFSCC. In addition, an Honourable Mention Award of 2000 Swiss Francs is given to the next best presentation. If there are two Honourable Mentions of equal merit, they each receive 500 Swiss Francs. An Award of 1000 Swiss Francs is also given to the best Poster Presentation. This can also be divided equally between two poster winners. The Award Committee is comprised of seven distinguished delegates to the IFSCC Congress, appointed from seven different member societies. The criteria for the IFSCC award are: originality, scientific contribution, importance and relevance to the industry, presentation and the use of visual aids.

IFSCC Conference Award

The IFSCC Conference Award was first made in 2003 at the IFSCC Conference in Korea. The Award was set up to recognise the increasing scientific contribution made by the IFSCC Conferences and is for the Best Paper presented at the Conference.

2007 Winner
The winner of the 2007 Conference Award is Dr. Arturo Puig and his co-authors Dr. José María García Antón and Ms. Montserrat Mangues for their paper entitled: "A new decorin-like tetrapeptide for optimal organisation of collagen fibres"

Maison G de Navarre Young Scientist Prize

The IFSCC is pleased to announce the opening of the competition for the Maison G de Navarre Young Scientist Prize. This prize is granted each year to enable a young cosmetic scientist to attend either a Congress or Conference of the IFSCC.

The 2007 winner will be invited to attend the IFSCC Conference to be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in September 2007 with the cost of travel, accommodation and registration fees up to, but not exceeding, 6000 Swiss Francs, being paid by the IFSCC. Any member of a member society of the IFSCC, normally under 35 years of age, may apply.

Applicants should submit an essay of no less than 500 words on one of the following topics:

    a) The role of WATER in cosmetics.
    b) How can cosmetics contribute to Aesthetic Medicine ?
    c) How Cosmetic Science can contribute to the improvement of Society.
    d) My first year of experience in the Cosmetic Field: Problems and Future Hopes.
The applicant enters the competition by sending electronically a copy of the essay to the IFSCC Secretariat - ifscc.scs@btconnect.com - with the information requested on the entry form, (copies of which are available from the local Societies) by 1 June 2007. The essay must be submitted in English accompanied by the details requested on the official Application form. A copy of the essay must also be sent to the office of the member society.

Applicants must be members of good standing in their Society, which in turn must be current in its Federation subscription. Applicants must submit proof that they are actively employed in a technical capacity in the Cosmetic Industry or related Academia and that they meet the relevant requirements.

The Award winner must attend the Congress and accept the Prize in person. All eligible candidates are urged to apply.

2007 Winner
The winner of the 2007 prize is Muchaneta Mutasa from South Africa, for her essay entitled "My First year of Experience in the Cosmetic Field - Problems and Future Hopes".

As her prize, Mucha attended the IFSCC Conference in Amsterdam in September 2007 and received her scroll at the Opening Ceremony.

Lester Conrad Education Prize

The Lester Conrad Education Prize is established to assist a Member Society in their Cosmetic Science education program. The prize of 4000 Swiss Francs is presented on alternate years at the IFSCC Conference for the best submission of a proposed program by an eligible Member Society. The awards made to date have been presented to the following Societies:

    - Czechoslovakia in 1981
    - Argentina in 1983
    - Yugoslavia in 1985
    - Brazil in 1987
    - New Zealand - 1989
    - Venezuela in 1991
    - Uruguay in 1993
    - Israel in 1995
    - Argentina again in 1997
    - Croatia in 1999
    - Poland in 2001
    - Romania in 2003
    - Slovakia in 2005
    - Ecuador in 2007
